Privacy policy
We keep only what we need to draw the hero and find your books again. No ads, no trackers, and we never sell your data.
Who we are
Teranga Story is published by Cd Corp, a sole proprietorship registered in France, which is the controller of your data (full details in the legal notice). Contact: bonjour@terangastory.com.
In short
- no ads, no analytics, no cookies;
- about your child, we keep only the first name and the look chosen for the hero;
- an account is optional: it lets you find your books and unlocked stories on several devices;
- your voice recordings never leave your device.
What we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we process:
- Waitlist (website): the email address entered in the “Get notified” form, the page language and the region guessed from your device’s time zone.
- Account: your email address, or the identifier sent by Apple or Google if you sign in with them (along with the email they share), and your chosen language and region.
- Your children: first name, boy or girl, and the hero’s look (skin tone, hairstyle, hair colour, outfit), plus the parents’ skin tones if you choose them. Never a last name, date of birth, photo or address.
- Your books: the story, the language, and the dedication with its signature.
- Unlocked stories: the type of access (purchase, subscription, gift) and the transaction reference provided by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
- Technical data: the sign-in date and the type of device or browser for each session, and your IP address, kept in memory for a few minutes to block abuse.
What stays on your device
Books and children created without an account, your preferences (language, region) and your sign-in token are stored only on your device, so the app works offline.
If you record your own voice reading a story, the recording stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. The microphone is used only while you record. Otherwise, reading aloud uses your device’s built-in voice.
Why we use it
- to create and secure your account, send your sign-in code and sync your books: providing the service you ask for;
- to tell you when the app launches: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time;
- to prevent fraud and abuse: our legitimate interest in protecting the service;
- to meet our accounting and legal duties: legal obligation.
Your data is never used for targeted advertising or profiling.
Children
Teranga Story is made for parents. Children don’t create accounts or enter any information: the adult chooses the hero’s name and look. The first name is only used to write the story, and a nickname works just as well.
Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your data. Only the providers needed to run the service can access it, and only for their task:
- Contabo (Germany): hosting of the app and database, inside the European Union;
- Resend (United States): sending emails (sign-in codes, launch email);
- Apple and Google: sign-in, if you choose it, and in-app purchases.
Transfers outside the European Union are covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- account, children and books: as long as the account exists, deleted as soon as you delete it;
- sessions: 90 days at most; sign-in codes: 15 minutes;
- waitlist: until launch, then 12 months at most, or until you ask us to remove it.
Security
- encrypted connections (HTTPS);
- no passwords: you sign in with a one-time code, Apple or Google;
- sign-in codes and tokens are stored only as an unreadable fingerprint;
- each account’s data is kept separate, and attempts are limited.
Cookies
The website and the app use no cookies. The app only stores on your device what it needs to work (see above), so no consent is required.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to its use, and withdraw your consent. Email bonjour@terangastory.com and we’ll reply within one month.
To delete your account, see Delete your account. You can also contact the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Families outside Europe
The same protections apply to every family, wherever you live. We do not sell or share your personal information as defined by US law (including the California Consumer Privacy Act), and we do not collect any data directly from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with its date. For significant changes, we’ll let account holders know by email.
